Mars Helps You Work, Rest and Play

Congratulations to India for successfully putting a satellite in orbit around Mars.

This success, at I dare say some expense, leaves me wondering why Nanny sends aid to India each year?

In fact, according to the BBC,  India was the biggest recipient of bilateral aid from the UK, receiving an average of £227M a year in direct financial support over the past three years.

Given that, according to Millipede and co, everything is falling apart here should charity not first begin at home?

I think that the UK is entitled to ask for some of their money back.

I think that George Osbourne should ring his Indian counterpart and tell him that the UK is a bit skint and could do with a few billion pounds please.

I am sure that I know what the reply would be, but at least Osbourne could then make a sensible decision on whether to keep sending the ungrateful bastards even more of the tax payer’s hard earned money.

Irrespective of your views, Ken, those of other contributors to this website and mine, our illustrious leader is pushing ahead with plans to actually increase the % of our GDP that goes to international aid, above the 37% increase already sanctioned This is despite the financial mess this country is in, and the fact that many people are opposed to any increase in this. I am not unsympathetic to helping those suffering through poverty, disease etc, but the problem is that I understand much overseas aid gets siphoned off and does not actually go to those in greatest need. I also feel very strongly that countries that can afford nuclear weapons and to run a space programme should concentrate on looking after their own people first, and not expect us to do so. They need to get their priorities right!
