Nanny's Spy in The Cab

I am more than a little gobsmacked to learn that Oxford City Council has decreed that all of Oxford's 662 taxis must be fitted with microphones and CCTV cameras.

For why?

The council wants all conversations and images in the cab to be recorded, cameras etc will start automatically as soon as the ignition is fired and will continue up to 30 minutes after the engine is turned off.

Cabbies must keep recordings for a defined period of time afterwards.

This is a gross intrusion into personal privacy by the state.

As noted many times before on this site, councils are the enemies of the people.

  1. Awful idea by Oxford Council.
I wonder how many of these films will find themselves on comedy video clip shows.......Sadly, too many people are programmed to accept any intrusion into their lives and because it has been started in the schools, the new generation think it is perfectly normal, or almost highly desirable to have Nanny watching your every move.

Cue the sheeple that say....If you've nothing to hide etc.....

Passengers should boycott all these taxis, but of course they won’t, they will just put up with just another abuse of their human rights.

Just another example of how stupid people can be.

The general public clamour for nonsense gossip written in tabloid newspapers and are then upset about how the journalists invaded people’s privacy to obtain these ‘stories’; but when Councils decide that all cabs must photograph and record entire journeys they come out with shit like, ‘If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear’.

And what interest is what happens in a cab to any council? Why the fuck are they involved?
If any crime is committed it is up to the police to investigate.

Haven't the council anything better to do with their time, than to poke their unwanted snouts into other people's business? To me, this is very sinister, very sinister indeed. One result of this, I fear, is that people will shun 'proper' taxis in favour of unlicensed ones, with all the risks that entails.
Welcome to the police state! Hitler and Stalin would be so proud of these developments!

I reckon this Council isn't going far enough. Why don't that tackle crime REALLY seriously - Make it an offence to attempt to enter the territory of the Oxford Peoples' Dictatorate?

(Of course it would also be an offence to LEAVE - otherwise there would be no-one to pay the rates to fund the Concil...)
