Prats of The Week - Shepway District Council

Good morning everyone!

Another week dawns, and what better way to start the week than by awarding another one of my prestigious and internationally renowned "Prats of The Week" Awards.

This week it goes to Shepway District Council.

For why?

For their bizarre decision to install "shouting lampposts".

Eh?

The lampposts (£4K each) are designed to photograph fly tippers (and are located near set of industrial bins behind The Old High Street in Folkestone). In addition, whilst the photo is being taken, the lampposts issue a loud verbal warning about not fly tipping and warning people that the lamppost is taking a picture.

Now the theory behind all of that sounds perfectly fine, if it really does deter fly tippers.

However, there is one small fly in the oinkment here.

For reasons that are pretty obvious to all but those in the council, the lampposts cannot distinguish between fly tippers and anyone else who happens to walk near the vicinity of the bins.

The result being that the lampposts take pictures of everyone, and shout (like a drunk waving a vodka bottle) at all and sundry!

Shepway District Council, well deserving Prats of The Week!

  1. Once again, a council shows just how far removed it is from the people it is supposed to serve.

I wonder when they will have lamp posts shouting not to rob, or not to kill, or not to urinate in public......It seems that Nanny has to tell people not to do something that most know is illegal.....Take ASBOs for example; someone is taken to court and given an ASBO, usually they are just an order not to do something that is already against the law. Locally to me, they have just taken a youth to court to tell him not to shout abuse at people and threaten them, in my day, our local copper would have dealt with it with a clout with his cloak around the ear.....I know which one is more likely to deter repeat offences.

I wonder what Nanny does with all these pictures she takes?....Big Brother is not only watching you but, shouting at you too.

    Bloody councils!!

I imagine that fly tippers will just fuck off somewhere else to dump their rubbish, but I am betting the local kids will make great use of this new toy. Hundreds of pictures of snot faced ‘yoofs’ posing in all manner of ways ‘for a larf!’

The council workers will have fun sorting through those pictures!, but I doubt that the tax-payers will not be too pleased with the expense of doing so.

At only 4 grand each maybe some of the pissed off residents could club together to install one near the staff entrance of the local Town Hall. With an altogether different message being shouted, of course!

  3. Myself and my friends who are not 'yoofs' have had great fun posing for the shouty box every time we walk past. It's actually laughable the way it shouts at you and quite ironic that people still fly tip but just put it behind the lamp post where the camera doesn't cover.....

I trust the council has equipped the lamposts with hi vis vests and that the decibels emitted are in line with Uber EU Nanny's noise allowances.

The way council dickheads squander our money is criminal.

Many local authorities and other so-called respectable organisations
