Oh Mr Porter

It never ceases to amaze me how jobsworths blindly follow rules when they can see that a common sense solution, that would save time and trouble for all, would be to ignore the rules under certain circumstances.

Donatella Coppini, who suffers from a spinal condition which means she has to use sticks to walk, found this to her cost recently when she was rushed to Southend A&E with back pains.

Ms Coppini arrived in the hospital car park with her partner, and asked staff if they could help her move the 200 yards into the hospital.

Unfortunately health and safety regulations meant that the staff they asked said no. Ms Coppini was told to ring 999 and summon an ambulance.

Read that bit again...they were in a hospital car park, and were talking to hospital staff.

Seemingly this is standard procedure!

It just sounds daft to me.

  1. It seems to me that, 'Elf'n'Safety must be a God send for those that are in the public sector that are bone idle.....It is used as an excuse not to do their job....Others in the public sector, just use it to control people as few people will go against 'elf'n'safety directives in case they are not insured or are sued...

In the interests of health and safety I will not bother to think of anything to say today.

You should be careful, prolonged silence is surely extremely dangerous!

  4. This would make a good scene in a movie. In fact, some aspiring screenwriter could scroll through a selection of NKB posts, string together a series of Nanny's escapades with some narrative contrivance, and come up with a pretty decent satire.

Read Incompetence by Rob Grant, he's got the Nanny State nailed to a tee, and it's very funny too.

I always thought that one of the prime motivations for working in hospitals was compassion. However, since these jobsworths are either totally lacking this attribute or are too spineless to say 'no' to the 'elf'n'safety gestapo, the question arises as to why they are 'working' in the health service?

If my last visit to A&E is anything to go by, nursing/working in the health sector is no longer a vocation, it's just a job to be got done anyhow and as quickly as possible, like any old job, so they can have a tea break/lunch break/go home. Scrap the targets and the 'elf 'n' safety crap, bring back the scary matrons and let them run the hospitals again.
