Pounds For Pounds

NurseNanny's master plan for turning us into a nation of hatchet faced beanpoles has taken another step forward.

Eastern and Coastal Kent primary care trust in conjunction with Weight Wins, a private company (a nice little earener I am sure), has set up the "Pounds for Pounds" scheme.

The plan being for 300 people to sign up and have their weight targets set in a tailored scheme. The size of the reward grows as the targets become more challenging.

Participants could win £70 if they lose 15lb, a further £90 for losing 30lb and another £265 to shed 50lbs - a total of £425.

There is no time limit, but patients will get only half the money for losing the weight. The rest is handed over if they keep it off for six months.

They can decide to take cash or store or holiday vouchers.

Meanwhile the NHS, so short of resources, is denying patients who are actually ill the drugs and treatment they need.

Message to Nanny:

Obesity is not an illness!

Those who want to lose weight simply need to eat less and exercise more.

If they offered Primark vouchers the 'prizes' might just cover the cost of replacing the participants clothes.

How many times might one join the scheme? Could it be an annual allowance? If so, once one has the range of clothes sizes in one's wardrobe, I guess it could become a source of a few extra tax free spending tokens.

Mmmmm....£425 would buy quite a few nice pies and a cople of pints of real ale :-))
    Where do I sign?

The real juxta position is that, we are told we are diverse and tolerant as a society, however, the numerous government diktats, in relation to drinking, smoking and eating, suggests otherwise. Perhaps Nanny means we are a tolerant society as long as we do as she tells us:-))

My BMI is a Nanny-horrifying 31 yet I'm not regarded to be obese. I'm one of those folk who swim outdoors all year round in just Speedos, and a layer of insulating blubber comes with the cold-conditioning.

I'd like to take a few of these anti-fat twerps for a swim in my local river in the depths of winter. Then we'd soon find out who was the fitter!

BMI is now a discredited method of determining whether one is "too fat" or not. Some individuals are genetically programmed to be fatties, others to be beanpoles.

Despite my high BMI my cholesterol is normal, as my blood pressure.

    Disgusted TW:

You make a good point; Many professional super fit/active sportsmen and women would be deemed, by the BMI method, to be obese.

Cholesterol measurement is also misleading as it does not take into account other blood fats which are produced natutally by the body, many of which are essential to maintain health and wellbeing. The only way to determine if someone is at significant risk from blood fats is a full lipid profile bllod test.....This is far more expensive than the cholesterol "Stick to beat you with" test that Nanny likes to use.

And, Disgusted, when they abritrarily dropped the obesity threshold from some BMI 30 to about 25, the Fat Police instantly made the scrums of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland obese.

Which prompts a use for the Fat Police: tackle dummies for squad training.

I wonder what Gordo's BMI is? If we can be deemed unfit to foster/adopt children if we are overweight then his suitability to run the country (and be responsible for all our children) must be called to question too!!!
